Round the Bend – Oil Painting on Matte Paper Wooden Framed Poster

from €59.04
Round the Bend, from the Nocturnal Passage series, presents a dark, winding road ahead, flanked by skeletal trees that stretch out in an ambivalent gesture of guidance. This piece signifies the beginning stages of the Nocturnal Passage, an exploration both inward and outward, into the collective and individual shadow. The road, shrouded in mystery and uncertainty, invites the viewer to embark on a journey of self-discovery, where the shadows of the past and the unknown future intertwine. The skeletal trees, with their fragile forms, represent the delicate balance between fear and curiosity, urging the viewer to face the hidden, unacknowledged parts of themselves and the world around them. Where are you on your soul’s path, and what is your relationship to the unknown? Infuse your space with magic, mystery, and introspection through these paintings, inviting reflection on these deep questions. They encourage self-discovery and connection, while serving as a reminder of the mystical realm beyond time and space that we’re all collectively experiencing across space and time, guiding you on your journey through the unknown. Nocturnal Passage (2020) Artist Statement Derived from my own night photography, this series delves into the duality between the natural and man-made, the real and the imaginary. Inspired by Limerick's historic streets and the River Shannon, the paintings serve as a reminder of the mystical other realm lurking just beneath our own, just out of sight. At night, these streets take on an uncanny atmosphere; in their quiet emptiness, they almost resemble film sets, not fully real places. These urban landscapes are portrayed as the nocturnal version of the familiar world, where that which has been quelled by the day’s light comes out to play. Using photography and grisaille techniques, I stretch and distort the rigid urban structures, allowing new perspectives to emerge. By blending abstraction with realism, the works invite viewers to explore a transient, liminal space—where the hidden and forgotten aspects of existence rise to the surface and the boundary between reality and illusion dissolves.
