Phantom Crossing – Oil Painting on Semi-Glossy Wooden Framed Poster

from €63.62
Step into the haunting stillness of Limerick's streets at night, where the familiar transforms into the uncanny. Created with layers of oil paint, this monochromatic murky green reflects the sensation of streets submerged in the River Shannon, blending reality with the depths of the subconscious. The river, rich in folklore and shadowed by untold stories, serves as a metaphor for the hidden, with a dark doorway looming before a skeletal church. As you gaze, feel the tension between what’s seen and what’s hidden, inviting a deeper exploration of the forgotten and the unspoken. This piece beckons you to uncover the unseen, confronting both the unsettling and the familiar in a journey into the unknown. Where are you on your soul’s path, and what is your relationship to the unknown? Infuse your space with magic, mystery, and introspection through these paintings, inviting reflection on these deep questions. They encourage self-discovery and connection, while serving as a reminder of the mystical realm beyond time and space that we’re all collectively experiencing across space and time, guiding you on your journey through the unknown. Nocturnal Passage (2020) Artist Statement Derived from my own night photography, this series delves into the duality between the natural and man-made, the real and the imaginary. Inspired by Limerick's historic streets and the River Shannon, the paintings serve as a reminder of the mystical other realm lurking just beneath our own, just out of sight. At night, these streets take on an uncanny atmosphere; in their quiet emptiness, they almost resemble film sets, not fully real places. These urban landscapes are portrayed as the nocturnal version of the familiar world, where that which has been quelled by the day’s light comes out to play. Using photography and grisaille techniques, I stretch and distort the rigid urban structures, allowing new perspectives to emerge. By blending abstraction with realism, the works invite viewers to explore a transient, liminal space—where the hidden and forgotten aspects of existence rise to the surface and the boundary between reality and illusion dissolves.
